Guiding at Guapiaçú Ecological Reserve (REGUA)

On the 24th and 28th of November 2024, I carried out two guided birdwatching tours to the always welcoming Guapiaçú Ecological Reserve (REGUA), in Cachoeiras de Macacú.

On the 24th I guided the Brazilian sisters Denise and Deolinda, as well as the American Ryan, Denise's husband. The day was beautiful and led to several interesting observations, such as the Boat-billed Heron (Cochlearius cochlearius), which nests in the area; the Blue Ground-Dove (Claravis pretiosa), quite rare in Rio; the Black-Hawk Eagle (Spizaetus tyrannus), in addition to the Masked Duck (Nomonyx dominicus), the latter I had not recorded there for several years.

And on the 28th I returned to guide my friend Filipe Prates and his mother Jacque Pires, with an extension to the Guapimirim headquarters of the Serra dos Órgãos National Park. A sunny and hot day, but still full of new species for the new birders, who were able to see several of the birds already recorded on the previous visit.

I am grateful for the trust of my new friends, who booked my services through my website, and I hope to see them again on a Serpa Birdwatching tour.
