Guiding Dean Latray for Agami Nature Tours

Between the 17th and 21st of October 2024 I was guiding part of the tour in Southeast Brazil organized by Agami Nature Tours for the North American birder Dean Latray. This was my first experience guiding outside the state of Rio de Janeiro, something I had had in mind for some time.

In Campos do Jordão-SP I had the valuable partnership of Thiago Carneiro, who I had the pleasure of finally meeting in person. The local highlights were the Swallow-tailed Cotinga (Phibalura flavirostris), the Vinaceous-breasted Parrot (Amazona vinacea) and the Black-capped Piprites (Piprites pileata).

Once In Rio de Janeiro we stayed at the always welcoming Sítio Cachoeira, on the outskirts of the Itatiaia National Park and we were also in the lower part of the park, birding around the Hotel do Ypê and Donati.

It was just the beginning of Dean's experience in the Atlantic Forest, but he had already acquired several new species for his extensive lifelist. My colleague guide Guilherme Battistuzzo took over the tour from then on and they certainly had an incredible birding experience. I thank Bradly Davis for trusting in my services and may this is the beginning of a long partnership.
